Scoreboard/Clock Help

Here's a step-by-step tutorial for operating Daktronics AllSports at the SLP Rec Center for hockey games.


Step 1: Creating a New Game

  1. Power On: Turn on the console using the power button.
  2. Press <MENU>
  3. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the "New Game" option and press the <ENTER> button.

Step 2: Setting Up Home/Guest Team Names

  1. Press <MENU>.
  2. Press the <Down Arrow> key until the LCD shows "Menu - Roster - Select Home".
  3. Press <ENTER>.
  4. LCD will show "Home - Team Name", under that will be the previous name with the first letter underlined and a start at the end of the row.
  5. Now enter the Team Name using the keyboard under the insert.
  6. Letters are capitalized by default. To access Alternate Narrow fonts, press the <Shift> key before pressing a letter key. A lowercase letter is shown on the LCD to represent the Alternate Narrow characters.
  7. Once the home team name is entered, press <ENTER>.
  8. LCD will show "Home - Team ABBR".
  9. Enter either the team name again or a short abbreviation of the team name.
  10. Press <ENTER>.
  11. Press <MENU> to return to game information.  Home team name is now saved.
  12. Repeat steps 1-9 for Guest Team Name. LCD will show "Menu - Roster - Select Guest".
  13. Team names will be saved in the console until a new game or new code is entered.

Step 3: Setting Pre-Game Warmup Time

  1. Press <SET MAIN CLOCK>
  2. Use the keypad to input the desired warmup time in minutes. (typically 5 minutes)
  3. Press <ENTER> to confirm.
  4. Use the clicker to start the clock when 1st team steps on the ice.

Step 4: Setting Period Time

  1. Press <SET MAIN CLOCK>
  2. Use the keypad to input the period length (typically 12 minutes for district games)
  3. Press <ENTER> to confirm.

Adding/Removing Goals

  1. HOME team buttons are on the left and GUEST are on the right.
  2. Add Goal: Press the <SCORE +1> button to add a goal to the selected team's score.
  3. Remove Goal: Press the <SCORE -1> button to remove a goal from the selected team's score.

Penalties

NEW PENALTY

  1. HOME team buttons are on the left and GUEST are on the right.
  2. Add Penalty: Press the <PLAYER PENALTY •> button to add a penalty to the selected team.
  3. With the numeric keypad, enter the player # and then the duration of the penalty.
  4. EX: #23, 1 minute for tripping
  5. <PLAYER PENALTY •> 
  6. 23 
  7. <ENTER> 
  8. 01:00 
  9. <ENTER>
  10. Penalty should be on the board. (ensure that <ENABLE PENALTY CLOCKS> has been selected so that the penalty time tracks with the period timer


REMOVE SINGLE PENALTY

  1. Press <DELETE PENALTY •> to delete existing penalty for the home or guest team
  2. Use the up and down arrow keys to select the desired penalty, and then press <ENTER>. 
  3. Enter the jersey number of the player with the penalty using the number pad, and then press <ENTER>.
  4. To exit without removing the penalty: press <CLEAR> twice to cancel and return to the game.


REMOVE ALL PENALTIES

  1. Press <CLEAR ALL PENALTIES •> for the appropriate home or guest team. 
  2. Press <YES> to confirm or press <NO> to cancel. 


EDIT PENALTY

  1. Press <PLAYER PENALTY •> to edit an existing penalty for the home or guest team
  2. Use the up and down arrow keys to select the desired penalty, and then press <ENTER>. 
  3. Enter the jersey number of the player with the penalty using the number pad, and then press <ENTER>.
  4. To exit without editing the penalty: press <CLEAR> twice to cancel and return to the game.


NOTES: If a third (or more) player on a single team is penalized while two players are serving penalties, add the penalty as usual but note that the penalty time of the third player will not commence until the penalty time of one of the two players already penalized has elapsed.



End of Period Activities

  1. At the end of the period, if there is any remaining time on penalties, press the <DISABLE PENALTY CLOCKS> to pause the penalty during the intermission timer
  2. Press <SET MAIN CLOCK>
  3. Use the keypad to input the desired intermission time in minutes. (typically 1 minute)
  4. Press <ENTER> to confirm.
  5. When the intermission buzzer goes off:
  6. Change the period by pressing <PERIOD +1>
  7. Press <SET MAIN CLOCK>
  8. Use the keypad to input the period length (typically 12 minutes for district games)
  9. Press <ENTER> to confirm.
  10. Press <ENABLE PENALTY CLOCKS>


NOTES: The last two characters in the bottom of the LCD screen on the Daktronic 5000 console show if the penalty clocks are currently enabled (EN) or disabled (DS). If there are no penalty times that need to roll over to the next period, the disable button will not need to be pressed

Adjusting the Period

End Period: When a period ends, navigate to the "Period" setting and press "Enter" to advance to the next period.

Additional Tips

  • Practice Before the Game: Familiarize yourself with the console before the game starts.
  • Double-Check Settings: Ensure all settings, including period time, penalty times, and team names, are correct before the game begins.
Confirm Delete
Click the delete icon again to confirm. Click escape to cancel.
