Player Equipment

Required Equipment

All participants in the St. Louis Park Hockey Association are required to have a full set of ice hockey equipment. Ensuring each player has equipment that fits well and properly protects them is critical to having fun and gaining confidence while on the ice.

St Louis Park colors are Black, Orange, and White. We encourage families to purchase a Black helmet, gloves, and hockey pants (breezers), but it is not mandatory for players at the Mite-level.

How to get equipment

There are many ways to get hockey gear: buying at retail, buying online, buying used, or borrowing from friends. If buying new at retail a full set can cost $400-$500 for a new skater. Below are some options for obtaining gear at a reduced cost. SLPHA also has a limited amount of equipment available to new skaters.

Little Wild Learn to Play

Recommended for new players.

For less than $200 all participants receive a full set of CCM hockey equipment fitted to the player at Pure Hockey, plus four one-hour on-ice sessions led by the Minnesota Hockey ADM team.

Registration opens late spring, most recently mid-May.

Baseline skating skills are necessary.

Lettermen Sports + Loyalty Loot

Recommended for all skaters.

Lettermen offers 20% cash back on purchases online or in-store through their loyalty program. First-year players who receive the SLPHA Rookie Camp equipment voucher from will receive an introductory 30% cash back for the first year. This program often makes Lettermen the lowest-cost retailer.

Dick's Sporting Goods Bundles

Alternative for new/replacement gear.

Dick's has player gear packages with shoulder pads, elbow pads, breezers, shin pads, and gloves for 20% off retail when purchased together. Another great option for discounted new gear when looking to buy a full set.

Hanus Sports Skate Rental

For fast-growing kids.

Hanus Sports has rental program for both new and used skates. During the lease you can swap skate sizes as needed, and at the end can purchase the leased skates outright if you wish.

SLPHA Mite Rental Program

New mites and HP 6U/8U skaters living in St. Louis Park can rent a partial set of gear for the winter hockey season. This is a great option for families who want to try hockey before fully committing.
