Required Equipment

The most important thing for a goalie is safety; every part of the goaltender's body should be protected without restricting their range of movement.

The SLPHA provides the option for all players to try the position during mite hockey.

Mini-Mites: Players can use quick-change goalie gear. Leg pads and a padded jersey fit on top of normal player equipment, and they swap skater gloves/stick for the goalie blocker/glove/stick. Gear is not taken home.
Upper-Mites: Each team receives a full set of goalie gear to be shared amongst the skaters. Players supplement their gear (cup, breezers, skates, leggings) with the provided goalie gear (helmet, chest pad, blocker, glove, leg pads, stick). Gear is taken home on a week-by-week basis.

At travel levels, players are encouraged to start purchasing their own gear to help ensure fit and brand/quality preference. Peewee and Bantam goalies are required to furnish their own full set of equipment. Squirt goalies are eligible for pass-the-bag loaner gear.

Buying your own gear

Most hockey stores specialize in either player gear or goalie gear, but not both. Below are some options to get you started if you are looking to purchase a set of goalie gear. Goalie equipment is especially important, so seek advice from knowledgeable sources.
